Scott Stroman

Scott Stroman ist Dirigent, Komponist, Performer und Pädagoge – seine stilistische Bandbreite reicht von  Klassik über Jazz bis zu  World Music. Der gebürtige Amerikaner lebt in London. Er leitet den Chor „Eclectic Voices“, das „London Jazz Orchestra“, ist künstlerischer Leiter des „Highbury Opera Theatre“. Scott  Stroman arbeitete mit zahlreichen Orchestern in Großbritannien und Europa zusammen, u.a. mit dem „London Philharmonic Orchestra“, dem „London Sinfonietta“, dem „Northern Sinfonia“ und vielen weiteren. Als ein Spezialist für neue Musik vieler Stilrichtungen und Genres gab er als Direktor des zeitgenössischen Streichensembles OPUS 20 Dutzende Premieren.

In Jazz und Weltmusik trat er als Sänger und / oder Posaunist mit vielen Größen auf, darunter Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Cobham und Kenny Wheeler, arbeitete als Arrangeur / Dirigent mit Youssou N'Dour, Phil Collins und Herbie Hancock. Scott ist außerdem Co-Leiter des Stroman / Jönsson-Projekts mit dem schwedischen Saxophonisten Cennet Jönsson. Er ist Professor an der Guildhall School für Musik und Drama in London, leitet dort die Jazz-Abteilung. Er ist Komponist und Arrangeur für Bands, Orchester, Chöre und die Bühne. Kürzlich komponierte er eine Oper basierend auf Nick Hornbys Buch „Fever Pitch“.

Stroman ist außerdem Kirchenmusiker in der „American International Church“ in London und gründete 1984 die Jazz Vespers in London.

Scott Stroman is a conductor, composer, performer and educator in a uniquely broad range of musical styles embracing classical, jazz and world music. American-born and based in London, he directs the choir Eclectic Voices, the London Jazz Orchestra, is Artistic Director of Highbury Opera Theatre, and has worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (where he founded their groundbreaking Renga ensemble), London Sinfonietta, Northern Sinfonia, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, English Chamber Orchestra, Western Sinfonia, Opera de Lyon, Toulon Opera, and numerous professional, amateur, and youth orchestras, choirs, and bands throughout the UK and Europe. A specialist in new music of many styles and genres, he also gave dozens of premiers as director of the contemporary string ensemble OPUS 20.

In jazz and world music he has performed as a singer and/or trombonist with many greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Cobham, and Kenny Wheeler, has worked as arranger/conductor with Youssou N'Dour, Phil Collins, and Herbie Hancock, and is co-leader of the Stroman/Jönsson Project with Swedish saxophonist Cennet Jönsson.  He is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where as Head of Jazz he created one of the top programmes in Europe. He is a prolific composer and arranger for bands, orchestras, choirs and the stage and recently completed an opera based on Nick Hornby's book Fever Pitch.

Stroman is Director of Music at the American International Church in London and founded London’s Jazz Vespers in 1984.
